Jennifer Anderson: Promise
Uniquely among this group of artists, Jennifer Anderson has painted
a perfect stranger, though she has now made friends with her model
Martine Wong. "I saw her on the tube in Glasgow last November,"
explains Anderson, 25. " I'd never approached anyone to paint
before and I was worried she wouldn't speak English because she looked
quite exotic. But she got on the bus at the same stop as me and when
she got off at the same stop l plucked up the courage to ask her.
She was all chuffed."
Born in Glasgow and raised near Loch Lomond, Anderson is the daughter
of an artist and shares a studio with her sister Jackie. Anderson
trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College in Dundee, returning to Glasgow
when she graduated in 1997, and now makes her living from painting.
Her work has appeared in shows at the Gatehouse Gallery in Giffnock
and MacLean Fine Art in London.
